Howard Rothstein, Ph.D.

Dr. Howard Rothstein earned a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Fordham University in 1993. While completing his dissertation he worked with Dr. Lawrence Kohlberg at Harvard University for three years conducting “Just Community” and moral intervention research with 200 dropout prevention inner city youth. He has 20 years of experience treating adults with developmental disabilities in various positions for the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. Early positions included Crisis Intervention Psychologist in the Bronx, NY, providing psychological services in an outpatient Clinic in Poughkeepsie and working in various other community and institutional settings as a Psychologist.

While at the Taconic Developmental Center’s Regional Behavioral Treatment Unit, and Local Intensive Treatment Unit, Dr. Rothstein co-developed the sexual abuser/offender treatment program. In addition to being involved with the development of the program, he provided the training for the direct care staff members who worked the residential units with the sexual abusers/offenders. As a psychologist, Dr. Rothstein was also involved in assessing and treating sexual offenders with intellectual and developmental disabilities. His clinical experience with this population spans a 14-year period.

Dr. Rothstein presently serves in an administrative function as a Treatment Team Leader of two residential treatment teams for the Multiply Disabled. He continues to oversee the clinical aspects of treatment for those individuals requiring his expertise. He has been a member of ATSA since 1999, a member of NYSATSA since 2000 and most recently a Board Member of NYSATSA since 2005.
